Hognose Psalltery Kit

The Hognose Psaltery is a great introduction to musical instrument building. It is simple to assemble using normal household tools and 20-30 hours' time. Use an electric hand drill for drilling string holes in the soundboard and for installing screws. You'll need two c-clamps and some weights for certain gluing steps.
The soundboard offers several opportunities for creative decorating. You can apply your favorite stain, do some woodburning, or even paint the top.

Good product
It has a very simple structure and was easy to assemble. It was fun to customize by painting the rosette with gold and drawing a gold border around the rim. And it sounded good.

Wonderful instrument. Wonderful kit.
Quite easy to build. I made one mistake which required some corrective ingenuity, but that was my fault :) Built in a day. Finished the next. Plays well, tunes easily, sounds great. Everything you could ask for. And the music sheets make it possible for anyone to play music their very first try!

My first kit
It came very fast, but the box had fragile stickers all over it and was crushed. Everything survived it was a different color or type of wood but I am having fun.

Box arrived very quickly - great shipping ! It is currently in my garage awaiting clearance of work space so I can put it together. I assume kit quality will be excellent and will respond again after the 'build' when I'm learning to play it.

Hognose Psaltery Kit
I ordered the hognose psaltery kit to build with my son who is four-and-a-half. It arrived very quickly and everything was as expected. It went together very easily and we stained it a mustard yellow before protecting it with polyurethane. It looks and sounds great.
Few tools were needed aside from a drill, a few clamps and a sander. We made a simple drill jig so the tuning pin holes would be all the same and used a fine flushcut saw to trim the box sides but you could do without those.
Great kit to try out instrument building and gain some practical experience!
We also have the mountain dulcimer kit to try next :)
